It Ain't Pretty

But it's necessary!

I have four very large ceramic planting containers.  They have to be protected from freezing and thawing through the winter to prevent cracking.  Once upon a time I was able to lift and maneuver them around.  And now my two newer ones are even bigger than the first two, so moving them into a protected garage is no longer possible.  Not to mention limited space in the garage!

So, I let them dry out COMPLETELY and just cover them with a sturdy yard waste bag.  It is so important that the soil be dry.  It doesn't take much water to freeze and expand to crack the ceramic.

Now I just hope for lots of snow to cover this monstrosity.
